Using Gulf oil spill to push renewable energy agenda

Re: “Set a standard for renewables,” June 6 editorial.

You have got to be kidding. Who decided there needed to be standards for renewable energy? The Public Utilities Commission, wind and solar lobbyists, the government, environmentalists, the citizens?

Wind and solar are temporary remedies at best, without the ability to store the unused energy being produced. So because natural gas is currently inexpensive, the poor renewable energy industries can’t compete? We still need oil, as it’s the most versatile liquid on the planet, used for clothing, transportation, medicine, energy, electronics, plastics, etc. So now our misguided leaders use the oil spill to push another agenda. Next, they’ll want us to prepay on our utility usage.
