Keywords:Re: “Weakened Ritter now vulnerable,” April 27 editorial.
Both Gov. Bill Ritter and Sen. Michael Bennet might be “weakened” by their lack of principled leadership, as you say. It’s real hard to find a principled liberal. However, if Republicans continue to put up candidates like the neocon Bob Beauprez or a whole host of authoritarian, statist and big-government candidates, they will lose again. If they do win, we all lose anyway.
By and large, most establishment candidates waiting trunk-to-tail in line for the next round of candidate nominations are abysmal.
There is a small number of decent, honest and truly conservative Republican candidates out there. Too bad the statist Republican establishment ensconsed in most county GOP organizations and the state party have their heads in the sand. They’ll do whatever possible to continue to promote the status quo and ignore the best candidates in the party.

Re: “Poll: Bennet not wowing voters,” April 23 news story, and “Ritter doesn’t fare well in poll,” April 24 news story.
It’s too bad that Public Policy Polling didn’t ask about the one thing that explains both Gov. Bill Ritter’s and Sen. Michael Bennet’s lack of support, which is Ritter’s appointment of Bennet in the first place.
When the governor asked people to weigh in on who they would like to see as their next senator, the votes were three to one for Andrew Romanoff versus anyone else. By not appointing Romanoff, the governor alienated the legions of Romanoff supporters who aren’t willing to meekly fall behind Bennet and who have become disillusioned with Ritter.
We can only hope that Romanoff, a true public servant who has worked tirelessly on the state’s behalf, will be heartened by these figures and will soon declare himself as a candidate for the U.S. Senate.
